Do you remember Anne Hathaway regrettably chuckling at Meryl Streep and her colleagues over turquoise belts in The Devil Wears Prada and Streep rebutting that Hathaway’s “lumpy blue sweater” was, in fact, “selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff”? In a monologue illustrating how the fashion industry consumes and metabolizes colors and trends, the exchange encapsulates how the lifecycle of tiny details reverberates over an entire industry, exploding from major collections to finding its way all the way down to pieces of infinitesimal impact. It may be just a movie, but it’s straight facts.

In our world, think of Pantone as Streep’s character, just without all of the meanness. Since 1962, Pantone has been the authority on all things color thanks to their licensed Pantone Matching System (PMS) that is utilized by colorists from a wide spectrum of industries. Fashion, graphic and product design and manufacturing all use PMS to connect products to personal stories and global trends. In 2000, Pantone started naming their Color of the Year and it has since catapulted the company to be the world’s preferred color swatch.

Two decades later, Pantone is still telling the world which colors to care about, and this new decade delivers a new Color of the Year: Classic Blue. As we anticipate the variety of new products that will don this color in 2020, there are a number of current items on StockX that feature the blue hue.
