The good ‘ol days of LV x Murakami felt like much simpler times. That’s when Marc Jacobs was the creative director for the French luxury house (1997-2008). He caused quite the multicolore frenzy in the summer of 2003, when he first released his collection with Murakami, the renowned Japanese artist. This iconic duffle is making rounds again in the celeb world, but it represents a 13-year era of pop-culture all compiled and displayed onto one special bag.

What also makes this Keepall so highly sought after is that the Monogramouflage collection was launched in Brooklyn’s museum on June 1, 2008. The collab highlighted the harmonious marriage of Murakami’s world of fine arts and Louis Vuitton’s world of luxury. The collection was presented at an art exhibition and featured a variety of military inspired handbags – including the – Keepall 55 – which were later sold at select LV stores. The Keepall Bandouliere Monogramouflage 55 features LV’s monogram against a printed green multicolor coated canvas, beige Vachetta leather, and gold-tone hardware.
The duffle was then seen on the then self-proclaimed “Louis Vuitton Don” himself, Mr. Kanye West, which comes to us as no surprise because a.) he was a tried and true lover of the boy bag and b.) Takashi Murakami was his favorite fine artist at the time, he even designed the cover art for ‘Ye’s third solo album “Graduation.” For years this bag was Kanye’s fav travel companion, the only bag he was really seen carrying at the time – and on multiple occasions.
Occasion #1: Canadian Tuxedo Kanye
Here he is circa 2008 rocking a denim-on-denim Levi’s lewk (that he probably wouldn’t be caught dead wearing today) but we’re most definitely here for it.
Occasion #2: Hypebeast Kanye
This fit was peak “Graduation” era Kanye. Rocking a Pastelle bomber jacket with a BAPE x KAWS (yes, you read that right) camo hat, and some Aqua 8 retro Jordans.
‘Ye then retired his beloved bag – at least they had a good run. THEN nearly a DECADE later, wife Kim Kardashian West was spotted donning Ye’s duffle – and on multiple occasions.
Travis Scott was also seen proudly showcasing his rare LV x Murakami Keepall in the air (coincidence?). It’s safe to say that the Kardashian/West clan all love Takashi Murakami’s “colabo things.”
So, let’s get this straight – did Kim let Travis borrow it? Is it part of Scott’s own collection? Will we ever see Kanye wearing this duffle again? The world may never know. BUT what we DO know is that LV x Murakami’s nostalgic designs aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
