Designed by Jacques Chassaing, the original adidas Forum released in 1983 as a performance basketball shoe aimed to protect hoopers' ankles. Chassaing drew inspiration from the bands physical therapists use to stabilize the ankle and as a result, created the Forum's "criss-cross" ankle strap system. It was constructed with leather with mesh collars and a rubber outsole. The Forum was one of adidas' most popular basketball shoes throughout the mid-1980s. Even Michael Jordan wore the adidas Forum during the 1984 Olympic Trials and his Olympic debut. See More
While the adidas Forum is not known for being a performance basketball shoe anymore, it has taken on a new life as a premier lifestyle sneaker from the Three Stripes. It is now offered in Hi and Lo iterations, and in a variety of colorways. Collaborations with creatives like Bad Bunny and Hebru Brantley, designers like Jeremy Scott, Kerwin Frost, and Prada, and TV franchises like Home Alone, Star Wars, South Park, and The Simpsons have continued to introduce the adidas Forum to new audiences around the world.
