Released in 2017, adidas Iniki is a nostalgic line of running shoes that emulates the OG adidas runner designs from the 1970s and 1980s, while incorporating new technology. Shortly after launch, adidas was forced to change the name from adidas Iniki to I-5923 due to a lawsuit filed against the company. For this reason, some of the sneakers feature ‘INIKI,’ while others have ‘I-5923’ stamped beside the side stripes. Despite the name change, the sneaker line-up remained popular due to its retro design and comfortable fit.

The classic silhouette is nearly identical to the 1970s models, featuring an upper with leather overlays and 3 serrated stripes on the side panel. While most of the uppers are made of two-way stretch mesh, some are crafted with suede. In addition, both the toe cap and the lace box are made of suede or synthetic suede. Branding details include the adidas logo printed across the tongue. The adidas Iniki Runner Collegiate Navy is one of the inaugural colourways and exemplifies the Iniki’s retro appeal. It features Collegiate Navy with accents of Running White on the heel and side stripes.

What sets this sneaker apart from the OG models is the addition of Boost technology. First introduced in 2013, the Boost midsole provides soft cushioning and absorbs impact. Even though the sole is made of durable rubber, the Boost midsole gives it a slightly gummy appearance.

While adidas Iniki offers more options in the men’s footwear category, women’s sneakers and children’s sneakers are also available.
