Nike Sacai Waffle

Nike Sacai Waffle represents one half of a collaboration between Nike and Sacai, a Japanese luxury brand founded by Chitose Abe in 1999. Abe is known for designing hybrid creations, juxtaposing fabrics and prints, and breaking the boundary between casualwear and formal apparel. Through her collaboration with Nike, Abe reconstructs classic Nike silhouettes and turns various designs into reborn running shoes. Although the collection made its debut during Parish Fashion Week 2018, it wasn’t released to the public until 2019.

Using only premium materials, Nike Sacai Waffle takes the recognizable Nike Waffle Racer and combines it with the Nike LDV. The upper combines elements from both shoes, including soft suede detailing and mesh material. Similarly, the midsole further deconstructs the LDV, adding an elongated foam midsole for increased cushioning. Abe adds the Waffle’s outsole to the bottom to provide traction and a rugged look that contrasts the sporty upper.

These sneakers also feature distinctive colorways borrowed from Sacai’s preferred palette, including the application of vivid purple or red accents to an equally vibrant upper. The Nike LD Waffle sacai Pine Green comes with double Swoosh logos in orange tones stitched onto a green mesh upper. As seen in this sneaker, many of the Nike x Sacai Waffle models come with doubled elements such as 2 tongues, 2 Swoosh logos, 2 heel panels, or 2 mudguards.

Nike Sacai Waffle comes in both men’s sizes and women’s sizes and is one model in the Nike x Sacai collaboration. The other model is Nike Sacai Blazer.
