Product Description

The Asics Gel Lyte III Concepts Three Lies debuted in mid-2013 and, as with many collabs from the Boston powerhouse boutique, are inspired by the Boston area. This GL3 honors the Statue of John Harvard, also known as the Statue of Three Lies, because of the statue's inscription that reads "John Harvard, Founder, 1636." Sadly, none of that is true and the three lies are as follows: first, the statue is not of John Harvard, it is simply of a 19th century Harvard student; second, John Harvard was not actually the founder of Hardvard University but rather an early financial contributor; and third, that Hardvard was founded in 1636, not 1638 as the statue would suggest. The gold perforated leather toeboxes of this Asics Gel Lyte 3 are inspired by the shiny left shoe of the statue -- so many tourists have rubbed the statue's toe that it became shiny over time instead of becoming dull due to aging. The dark green/navy premium suede upper mimicks the statue's current color. The Asics Gel Lyte III Concepts Three Lies was the Boston shop's first project with Asics, but it certainly wasn't the last. Of course, this GLIII has a few different lace options including a flat lace that mimicks the beautiful teal patina found on the statue.
