James Jean

James Jean’s intricate, dreamlike works blend fine art, illustration, and graphic design. The Taiwanese-American visual artist was born in Taipei in 1979 and studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York. James Jean started out as a cover artist for comic books and won multiple prestigious Eisner Awards for his work. He later transitioned from commercial illustration to fine art and has since exhibited globally, with solo shows in cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, and a major retrospective at Seoul's Lotte Museum of Art in 2019.

James Jean is known for his fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics and developed a unique artistic style that combines elements of Baroque painting, Japanese woodblock prints, and Chinese silk scrolls. His compositions often depict fantasy worlds filled with contemporary imagery that explore themes of mythology, nature, and the human experience.

His limited edition prints often feature hand embellishments and unique embossments, enhancing their value and appeal. The James Jean Santiago Print (Signed, Edition of 200) print is a hand-signed and numbered limited-edition of 200 copies from 2022. The lush, intricate artwork features a fisherman riding on top of a giant, white bird in a turbulent sea with raised details and dimensional enhancements. James Jean has ventured into pop culture as well, as he created collectibles of Disney characters. The white resin collectibles of Mickey and Minnie Mouse were covered in the artist’s signature petal motif with a porcelain aesthetic. His work continues to inspire and influence both collectors and fellow artists worldwide.
