The Dalek brand is the work of American painter James Marshall, best known for his Space Monkey designs. The portion of his childhood living in Japan heavily influenced the artist. His experiences with Japanese culture and the essence of the punk scene that he was involved in led him to create the Space Monkey. This eventually became his alter ego and a character he used to express his emotions. Today, the Space Monkey is a signature of Dalek designs and continues to appear in most of his products.
