NERF's humble beginnings in 1969 started with the idea by a Minnesotan, where the winters get pretty harsh, to create a safe indoor football game. While the toy and game manufacturer Parker Brothers didn't pick up the game, they did decide to produce a simple 4-inch foam ball that was designed to be played with indoors. And they called it the NERF ball. The brand continued to expand and incorporated their proprietary foam into a basketball and football.
Over the years, NERF has diversified its offerings to include a wide range of foam-based NERF toys to include super soakers, dart blasters and accessories. The super soaker used air pressure technology which the company trademarked. This allowed the water stream to be fired further and faster than competitor products. In 1992, the brand released its first foam dart blaster, marking the beginning of its popular blaster line.
NERF has teamed up with franchises such as Transformers and Minecraft to make specialized blasters. A collaboration with the Star Wars franchise resulted in a replica of Boba Fett's blaster from the live-action mini-series. Based on a EE-3 carbine rifle, NERF Star Wars The Book Of Boba Fett - Boba Fett's EE-3 Blaster features accurate an electronic scope with an illuminated lens, sound effects, and four-dart cylinders. Today, NERF remains a prominent name in the toy industry, known for its safe, foam-based products that encourage active play among children and adults alike.
