Like many other luxury brands, Prada has created quite a few pairs of sneakers over time. But unlike at least some of them, it didn’t just start doing it in the 2000s. The Prada America’s Cup has actually been around for more than 25 years. It was initially released in 1997 after being designed specifically for Prada’s Luna Rossa sailing team. With its leather overlays and its durable rubber sole, it was considered to be one of the best sailing shoes ever made, and it also helped Prada make its mark on the sneaker community.
Since the release of the Prada America’s Cup sneaker, the brand has followed it up with a slew of other sneakers that have been every bit as impactful as that shoe was. From the Prada Sneaker that was a more luxurious leather version of the America’s Cup sneaker to the outside-the-box Prada Cloudburst that was introduced in 2018 and came with its signature strap across the front of it, Prada has pushed the boundaries with its sneakers time and time again. It’s something that not all luxury brands like Prada have been able to do.
Prada doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down anytime soon, either. In more recent years, Prada has welcomed other new sneakers to its lineup, including the Prada Cloudbust Thunder in 2019 and the Prada Techno in 2020. Prada also entered into a partnership with adidas to collaborate on a new adidas Superstar and teamed up with the brand to create the Prada Luna Rossa in 2021. Few luxury brands like Prada have gone to these lengths to secure their place in the sneaker world.
