Performance

Performance footwear started out as specialized trainers for mid-20th-century athletes and quickly shifted into purpose-built models for competition and training, as well as fashionable sneakers that could be worn as a show. Performance shoes are designed to focus on measurable outcomes, like traction for quick direction changes, energy return for repeated strides, and breathability for managing the heat. Teams and coaches always lean towards performance models because they tend to offer the most support and comfort.

You’ll find wide choice of shoes for performance here, including the Nike Kobe 9 Elite Low Protro and Salomon XT-6 Gore-Tex. If you’re looking for a performance shoe with traction, check out pairs with a patterned rubber sole that grips the surface to reduce slips and improve push-off for quicker direction changes. If you need something with a bit more stability, take a look at the pairs with stiffer midsoles or medial posts that will limit how much roll you get and keep your foot firmly in place.

Performance trainers can be paired with an array of other clothing, including things like slim technical pants found in the apparel section, or you can throw on a lightweight nylon jacket to protect yourself from any harsh winds. If you’re one of those trail runners who likes to get lost in the mountains, grab a digital watch with GPS included, like a Casio Smartwatch or something similar.
