Product Description
The Hot Wheels x Mercedes-Benz Project G-Class Past II Future Designed by NIGO is a collectible object that brings together three of the most culturally significant names in their respective worlds, uniting Hot Wheels' legendary status as the definitive die-cast toy car brand, Mercedes-Benz's iconic G-Class SUV whose design has remained essentially unchanged across four decades of production to become one of the most recognizable and luxury-associated vehicles on the road, and NIGO's position as one of the most influential and culturally omnipresent figures in the global intersection of streetwear, music, and design culture. NIGO's creative involvement in the G-Class design brings the same aesthetic sensibility and Japanese streetwear cultural intelligence that has made everything he touches, from BAPE to Human Made to his Kenzo creative direction, into objects of genuine collector desire and cultural significance, and his Past II Future concept for this Mercedes G-Class Hot Wheels piece suggests a design dialogue between the G-Class's original 1979 military vehicle origins and its current status as the most status-laden luxury SUV in the contemporary automotive landscape. The Hot Wheels format translates all of that cultural and automotive significance into the 1:64 scale die-cast format that has made the brand the most beloved and widely collected toy car manufacturer in the history of the medium, creating a piece that is simultaneously a toy, a design object, a fashion collaboration, and a collector artifact of genuine cultural significance.
Collaborations between Hot Wheels and cultural figures of NIGO's standing represent a genuinely new and exciting direction for the die-cast collectible category, bringing the credibility and collector audience of the streetwear and fashion world into direct contact with the automotive enthusiasm and toy collecting community that has sustained Hot Wheels as a cultural institution since Mattel launched the brand in 1968. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class as the chosen vehicle carries enormous resonance in both the automotive collector and the streetwear community, the SUV's decades-long association with luxury, military heritage, and the specific kind of status dressing that hip hop and streetwear culture has consistently celebrated making it the most natural possible vehicle for a NIGO designed Hot Wheels collaboration. At eighty dollars this Past II Future G-Class collectible positions itself in the premium designer toy and collectible tier where NIGO's design involvement and the Mercedes G-Class subject matter together justify a price point well above standard Hot Wheels release pricing, creating a piece that will be displayed, discussed, and appreciated by collectors across multiple cultural communities simultaneously.
The Hot Wheels x Mercedes-Benz Project G-Class Past II Future Designed by NIGO was released on April 18, 2025 with a retail price of $80.
