The Nike SB Blazer has a long, proud heritage. Originally a basketball sneaker, the Blazer has been successfully reimagined as a skateboarding shoe. See More
The Nike Blazer got its start back in 1973. At that time, it was a basketball shoe. The narrow profile, leather upper, and thin rubber sole of the original don't resonate with the modern image of a basketball shoe, though. However, at the time, the shoe was viewed as cutting-edge. Some pro basketball players in the 1970s adopted the shoe as their own. Before long, advances in lighter materials for soles made the Blazer obsolete for basketball. Luckily, the heavier vulcanized rubber sole was perfect for skateboarders. In 2005, the Nike SB integrated the Blazer into its line. Similar to the SB Dunk, the SB Blazer has been the focal point of many collaborations. From Supreme to Parra to Medicom Toy, the Nike SB Blazer has played an important role in Nike SB's storytelling initiatives.
