To mark the start of 2021, Nike released an entire Chinese New Year collection. The Nike Dunk Low Chinese New Year Firecracker (2021) (TD) was one of the sneakers included in it, and it was available in toddler sizes.

This Nike Dunk Low Chinese New Year sneaker was unique in that it had an upper with a perforated base that had images inspired by the packaging for firecrackers on it. It also featured warning labels for firecrackers on the tongue tags.

But the thing that made these sneakers extra special was that the top layer of the upper would gradually wear away to reveal a red design that looked like the casing for a firecracker. That layer would also eventually wear away to make room for a black and grey design that was made to look like gunpowder from a firecracker that had been lit.
